Western Australia

Walking Tour through the Stunning Regions of Albany, Denmark, Pemberton & Margaret River

Join us as we spend 13 days exploring some of the most beautiful areas of South West WA.

We begin our journey in Perth and travel inland to the lovely coastal town of Albany where we are based for 2 nights. We walk in the spectacular Torndirrup National Park and immerse ourselves in the history of the National Anzac Centre.

From here our walk takes us under the largest wind turbines in the southern hemisphere and we quench our thirst at the Yilgarnia Winery before arriving at our luxurious spa retreat in Denmark. We are ideally located to spend 2 days discovering the famous Bibbulmun Track where we shall wind our way along the coastline discovering such idyllic beaches as Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks. The turquoise waters and pristine white sandy beaches have to be seen to be believed. However, it’s not just about the nature - we shall also introduce you to some of Western Australia’s premier regional restaurants such at Silas Masih’s Pepper and Salt restaurant.

Time for a “tree change” as we experience the tall karri forests of the Pemberton region - experience the 40-metre high Tree Top Walk and discover an array of wildlife up close on an eco-cruise through beautiful Walpole Inlet.

At Cape Leeuwin we gaze out over 2 oceans – the Indian and the Southern as we stand on the South West tip of mainland Australia. This is the beginning of another famous walking track – the Cape to Cape. We spend the next 2 days following this trail past the idyllic beaches of Margaret River. We shall visit both Leeuwin Estate and Voyager Vineyard to sample some of the renowned Margaret River wines and have a long lunch at the latter.

Spend a morning wandering through the charming coastal town of Margaret River. On our last day stretch your legs on the longest timber jetty in the southern hemisphere at Busselton before we return to the bright lights of Perth.

Our Hotels and Cuisine

We have chosen four delightful hotels which highlight the diversity of the different regions of South West WA. In Albany we spend 2 nights in an award-winning boutique hotel, in Denmark we have 3 nights in a lovely spa retreat where you can soothe your muscles after a day on the Bibbulmun Track; near Pemberton we stay in a peaceful resort surrounded by a karri forest overlooking Lake Beedelup and finally at Margaret River we have 4 nights directly on the beach in a lovely coastal resort.

Our local restaurants will highlight the delicious regional produce which the South West corner of WA is so famous for. Our three wine tastings will similarly showcase the high-quality wine which this part of Australia now produces – many of them award winners.

Guided Walking Holidays Had a wonderful time. The scenery was spectacular. Loved the Margaret River and the visits to the wineries. Good food. Walking manageable for fit but inexperienced walker."

Guided Walking Holidays An absolutely wonderful experience with our friends exploring the many beautiful coastal and bushland walks, visiting some of Australia's best wineries and as well, learning of the history from a part of Australia that many of us wouldn't know about unless you were to actually visit. Thank you to Graeme and Angie and who were a lot of fun and looked after us so magnificently."
Harry from Bairnsdale, Australia [2023]
Guided Walking Holidays We had a group of 9 and collectively we had a sensational trip. The walking and touring were absolute standouts, and we enjoyed our accommodation and terrific meals (and beverages) at night. Graeme and Angela were the best hosts we could have asked for and we loved having them join in with everything we did. I would strongly recommend this tour. The scenery and variety were some of the best experiences we have had."
Fred from Mount Eliza, Australia [2023]
Guided Walking Holidays A great trip, weather good throughout 18 to 22C, light winds negligible rain. Both coastal and forest scenery spectacular and walks chosen certainly highlighted the scenery. Graeme did a great job organising our group which ended up with only six members. Accommodation ranged from excellent to very good and we had some lovely meals with perhaps the highlight being lunch at Leeuwin Estate. Wine tasting at Voyager Estate was another highlight. All wineries offered cheap shipping back to the Eastern states eg $10 a case."

Guided Walking Holidays I was privileged to participate in a wonderful walking & gourmet tour of south west WA. Admittedly, this was a private friends tour and Graeme was our tour guide/driver/organiser. The tour was 5 star. Whilst Nature provides the magical scenery, Graeme ensured that we experienced the best on offer. From the accommodation, the walks, the restaurants & wine tasting it was first class & memorable & everything went smoothly. Highly recommended & will do another tour with Walkabout Gourmet Adventures in the future. Thank you Graeme for making our holiday so enjoyable."

Guided Walking Holidays The Best of the West trip to Western Australia was enjoyed with a small group of friends and Graeme, our excellent leader and guide. Driving through the magnificent landscapes and rich farming country around Margaret River and south to Albany afforded us the opportunity to really appreciate the beauty of this part of the world. The walks we took suited our capabilities and I was constantly surprised by Graeme's ability to not only find the best walking tracks with stunning views but to energise us into going that "one step further" when I might have been tempted to stop for a rest. The hospitality, friendly approach and occasional quirkiness (who can forget Walpole's guide) of the folks we met along the way added to the pleasure of the journey, as did the accommodation and great food and wine. The sites visited were a blend featuring beautiful landscapes, the history of the region and the development of the area as a wine-growing region of high repute. Thank you for a memorable experience."
Judith from Sydney NSW, Australia [2022]
Guided Walking Holidays We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the beautiful south west coast of Western Australia. The walking was exhilarating and the company convivial. The meals and wine tastings were most enjoyable and the tour extremely well organised."

Guided Walking Holidays What a sensational package – from rugged coastlines, rolling green hills, to majestic forests. In between, delightful diverse walks; foraging for remarkable fungi; splendid wine tastings; lunches in classy wineries and divine dinners in funky restaurants; an amazing wilderness eco cruise; a magnificent tree tops walk… and so much more. Such a great mix of experiences, showcasing the beautiful SW WA. All shared with a wonderful bunch of people. Thank you to all and especially, much appreciation to Graeme, who made this wonderful adventure possible and so memorable."
Anita from Malvern VIC, Australia [2022]
Guided Walking Holidays Thank you Graeme for a fantastic tour. One of the best aspects was that it was so varied, great walks (just a little bit up & a little bit down), wonderful and exciting scenery, great museum in Albany and the wonderful tree top walk in the Kauri Forest, how amazing. Of course I haven't forgotten the great food and our visit to the vineyards. All in all a great holiday. Thanks again."
Helen from Mosman NSW, Australia [2021]
Guided Walking Holidays I have been on five European and one Australian Walkabout Gourmet Tours. I have wonderful memories of these tours. What makes them such a great experience is the scenery, the food, the other guests and the fact that you do not have to worry about a thing. You can relax totally, knowing everything is under control. This feeling for me, makes it a highly relaxing holiday. I have been on other walking tours and I always compare them to Walkabout Gourmet. They have never reached the same standard of personal care. I did my first walk with Walkabout Gourmet 30 years ago and I'm still talking about & travelling with them."
Kate from Sydney NSW, Australia [2021]Western Australia
Guided Walking Holidays It was a real discovery to find that southwest Western Australia was so beautiful and so fertile. We had some great food and wine experiences. Oh yes, and the walking was pretty spectacular as well, without being overly challenging".
Ellen & Margaret from Brisbane and Melbourne [2021]
Guided Walking Holidays Having done 2 other trips when we were fitter and younger, I really liked the diversity and flexibility of this trip. I liked the diversity, especially the vineyard experiences and wine tasting. I enjoyed the mix of shorter and longer walks, as well as the opportunity to shorten them if necessary. I also enjoyed having some gourmet lunches with our group, rather than eating out every night. Highly recommended itinerary which should further appeal to many.
