Choose your activity level
Every Walkabout journey is graded to help you understand the level of walking involved and choose the journey that feels right for you. Our grades consider distance, terrain, elevation and the overall nature of the walks.
Grade 1
Easy
Relaxed walks on mostly even terrain, with shorter distances and plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings.
Mostly even, well-formed tracks
Minimal hills and elevation
Occasional uneven ground or steps
Plenty of time to walk at a relaxed pace and enjoy the surroundings
Typical walking day:
Around 5–10 km
Grade 2
Easy to Moderate
A comfortable level of walking for most active travellers. Expect a mix of easy tracks and some longer walks, with occasional hills, uneven ground or steps.
Generally well-formed tracks, with some uneven or natural surfaces
Occasional hills, steps or steeper sections
A mix of shorter and longer walks
Suitable for guests who enjoy regular walking and are comfortable being on their feet for several hours
Typical walking day:
Around 8–14 km
Grade 3
Moderate
A more active level of walking, with varied terrain and some longer days. Walks may include uneven or rocky ground, sustained hills and distances of up to around 20km on occasion.
