Choose your activity level

Every Walkabout journey is graded to help you understand the level of walking involved and choose the journey that feels right for you. Our grades consider distance, terrain, elevation and the overall nature of the walks.

Grade 1

Easy

Relaxed walks on mostly even terrain, with shorter distances and plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings. Walks are generally straightforward, with minimal hills and only occasional uneven ground or steps.

  • Occasional uneven ground or steps
  • Plenty of time to walk at a relaxed pace

Typical walking day:

Around 5–10 km

Grade 2

Easy to Moderate

A comfortable level of walking for most active travellers, with a mix of shorter and longer walks. Expect some hills, uneven ground and occasional steeper sections or steps.

  • Generally well-formed tracks with some uneven surfaces
  • Occasional hills, steps or steeper sections
  • A mix of shorter and longer walks
  • Comfortable walking for several hours at a time

Around 8–14 km

Grade 3

Moderate

A more active level of walking, with varied terrain and some longer or more demanding days. Expect uneven or rocky ground, steeper sections and more sustained elevation.

  • Longer or more demanding walks on occasion
  • Comfortable walking on varied terrain for several hours
