Walkabout Adventure Tours could be the answer for those people who enjoy walking in some of Victoria’s most scenic countryside and like to be gastronomically rewarded for their efforts.

Walkabout Adventure Tours came about after Gabriela and Graeme Clarke decided to combine their outdoor and culinary interests.  Graeme was keen to capitalise on his lifelong hobby of hiking wile Gabriela was waiting for the opportunity to realise her dream of opening a restaurant.  To avoid the feeling of domination of interests by one party, a compromise was chosen and their talents were combined to form Walkabout Adventure Tours.

Walkabout runs two and three day tours to a variety of Victorian National parks, and one day Mystery tours.  At Christmas and Easter there are 10-day tours to Mt. Kosciusko.  The tours are varied and tailored to meet the requirements of individual participants.

Those who enjoy overnight hiking can join the three day Wilson’s Prom Adventure which follows the coast past such idyllic spots as Refuge Cove. At Fraser National Park, a base camp is used for a series of fascinating day walks. For those who prefer a real “roof over their heads” you can stay in an authentic country farmhouse complete with a heated indoor pool.

The walks are designed for healthy, active people who are reasonably fit. The pace is leisurely so that guests have plenty of time to absorb the incredible flora and fauna of the regions and improve their photographic skills.

By evening, after plenty of exercise and good country air, appetites are increasing so this is where Gabriela takes the reins.  On the camping trips, guests can sit out under the stars and enjoy a fondue; while at the farmhouse they can take part in a “raclette” evening.  For those who don’t like going to bed on a full stomach, a nocturnal walkabout can always be arranged to walk the meal down.

Walkabout Adventure Tours concentrates on the weekend market with most tours departing Friday a.m. and returning Sunday p.m.  All tours are restricted to 12 guests to ensure a personalised service.

Participants have the opportunity to get away from their normal routine for a few days and enjoy some fine gourmet cooking amidst some of Victoria’s most fascinating flora and fauna.
