GUIDED WALKING HOLIDAYS IN Gippsland Lakes, Dinner Plain AND Victorian Alps

Metung is a quiet but stylish village in the heart of the Gippsland Lakes and has a history steeped in boats and fishing. It is spoiled with beautiful beaches and circled by bush-clad hills.

The village is set on a thin arm of land that extends out into the Lakes - Bancroft Bay on one side and Lake King Beach on the other - the idyllic location for a gentle cruise and relaxed walking along sandy beaches.

We discover the Great Alpine Road, which takes us from the lowland bush and plains towards the highest points in Victoria. We follow the Tambo River passing through some magnificent high country cattle grazing areas and alpine forests before we reach Dinner Plain, our base for the next 4 days.

Dinner Plain is Australia's newest, most unique alpine village. Marvel at the ingenious architecture intertwined between the distinctive snow gums.

The use of natural building materials with their earthy tones adds to the overall feeling of tranquility. Summer is the time to enjoy the wonderland of wildflowers in the Victorian Alps.

The mountain air is crisp and clean and the views to the distant peaks spectacular. We continue along the Great Alpine Road and reach our final destination, Beechworth.

Cradled in the foothills of the Victorian Alps, it is a fascinating and beautiful town of many contrasts. It has a rich history and offers a wonderful glimpse into centuries past.

Beechworth is surrounded by meandering streams and thundering waterfalls; deep rocky gorges, rolling green valleys and stark granite outcrops - ideal for a leisurely walk. We discover the Milawa gourmet food region with local cheeses, mustards, bakeries and trout farms and finish our touring at Brown Brothers' Winery before returning to Melbourne.

OUR HOTELS & CUISINE

We have chosen three excellent hotels for this tour, which are all very unique in their own way. In Metung we are very close to the water's edge and "fresh" is the catchword for the delicious food.

In Dinner Plain we stay in a very comfortable retreat and the "High Country" picnics never cease to amaze our guests! Our wonderful hotel in Milawa awaits us with some mouth-watering gourmet food.
