FRANCE, GERMANY & Italy
Alsace, Bavarian Hills & the Dolomites
The Alsace is a
region blessed with a wealth of beautiful scenery, culture, art and famous
cuisine. Its heritage dates back to Celtic, Gallic, Roman, Germanic and
Alemannic periods. The storybook villages with the famous half-timbered houses,
the romantic castle ruins and the legendary Wine Route make Alsace a
fascinating place for walking. It is the home of pretzels, baeckeoffe and tarte
flambée and few white wines in the world can match Gewuerztraminer for
finesse and breeding.
Holidays in the Bavarian hills mean sunshine and shady
beer gardens, dreamlike mountains and swimming in crystal clear lakes. Our
magnificent walks take us through gentle rolling fields to majestic mountains,
sleepy valleys, alpine streams and quaint villages with geranium-bedecked
chalets. A highlight is the walk in the Ammer Mountains, once the royal hunting
reserve and today Bavaria’s largest nature conservation area. Enjoy local
culinary delights in some of the most romantic settings.
This region is not
only rich in natural wonders but also contains some of the most important
historical and cultural treasures in Europe: the castles built by one of the
most famous monarchs, King Ludwig II. We travel via the Brenner Pass into
northern Italy to the "King of the Alps" – the Dolomites. These
jagged rocky peaks are an inspiring sight, especially at sunset when the
mountains take on a breathtaking hue of pink, known as "Alpenglow".
We walk through green meadows, alive with flowers and explore such famous
mountains as the Stella group and the Puez Geissler N.P.
Our Hotels & Cuisine
Our hotel in
Alsace is in the heart of the vineyards and has a wonderful atmosphere. It is
known for its elegant style with all the latest amenities, including a heated
indoor and outdoor pool, wellness and fitness centre and sauna.
The various
restaurants of the hotel are well known for their excellent cuisine and our
chef’s fine cooking really lets the flavours of his ingredients shine
through. We stay in one of the most beautiful hotels in the Bavarian Alps. Our
extremely friendly, family-run hotel is ideally located close to Lake Forggen,
in a very quiet position with glorious views towards Neuschwanstein and the
Alps. The Helmer family offers delicious traditional cuisine in their charming
restaurant.
The breakfast is certainly one of the best we have experienced
– a great beginning for a day of walking in the Alps. On our return, the
delicious homemade cakes on display will certainly tempt you. Our cosy hotel in
the famous Groedner Valley has been in the Demetz family for the last 400 years
and has the atmosphere and charm to match.
Naturally the hotel has been
constantly renovated and today it has a reputation for its modern comfort and tastefully
furnished premises retaining local traditions. Its fine dining room, serving
delicious Italian cuisine, is one of the best in the region.
Tour combination
Departure dates have been arranged to allow both the "A TASTE OF EUROPE" and "PEER GYNT'S TRAIL" walks to be combined.
